What is THE Market?
Our shop was built as a platform for small businesses to sell their products and chase their dreams. Each of our locations host at least 40 small businesses in the worlds of home decor, bath and body care, clothing, accessories, snacks, children's goods and everything in between. THE Market was built to stand behind the small business owner's personal goals; some are hobbyists, some are aspiring to create national level brands, some are looking to open their own individual storefronts, and some are just living life as it comes at them.
Each shop has its own robust look and feel. Are some of the vendors in both shops? Yes! Will you be shopping the same product? No! The vendors who are in both locations strive to bring different colors, textures, looks and feels to both locations while staying genuine to who they are in their business.
Our shops are the perfect place for you to slow down, live in the moment, and love life!
Building THE Market with Katie T.
Hey, it's me, Katie T., owner and curator of THE Market.
THE Market was born out of my love for going to weekend makers markets with my mom, a love for small business owners, and out of pure craziness. I had worked in the nonprofit industry for most of my adult life and when life forced a change upon me, my husband encouraged me to take the time to do something new and out of the box.
So, in January 2019 I signed a lease on 4,000 sqft of space, started talking to strangers about this wild crazy dream and in April we hosted the grand opening. That's true Katie style ... feel it, believe it, do it, live it! We have one great big wild crazy life to live so I believe in doing it loudly and boldly!
Those strangers are now friends and family. They are the vendors, the lifeblood of our shop. The greatest honor of being the shop owner is getting to share the stories of the vendors, their products and their dreams that built their businesses! I love promotional work and I'm humbled that the vendors trust me to share their stories and products!
We opened our second location in March 2022 in Le Claire, IA. What's next you ask? Who knows! Let's see where our dreams land us next!
